Gift idea - Popcorn and a movie

With the holidays approching you are probably trying to think of gift ideas that won't break the budget. Consider giving family gifts instead of individual gifts. For example you could spend $5 a person on an inexpensive item or $20 on one big item for a family of 4.  Here is one idea that you could easily pull off for under that $20 - Popcorn and a movie basket.

What you need:
  • Box of microwave popcorn $3
    • You can typically find coupons to help with the cost of this item
    • If you are not a couponer, consider buying Pop Weaver brand from Wal-mart. It's the best "off brand" we've tried.
  • Boxes of candy or large bag of Twizzlers $4
    • You can sub candy bars but the boxes go with the movie theme
    • Grab one for each member of the family or a "family sized" bag
  • Family oriented DVD $5 and up
    • Be sure to check out those $5 movie bins at Wal-mart. Often these are older movies but some classics are "new" fun for the younger generation. Some of my favorite classics that you can typically find for $5 is Ghost Busters and Frosty The Snowman.
    • If you prefer to gift a newer movie, Disney Movie Rewards often has printable coupons
  • Large popcorn type bowl $1
    • Great item to grab from The Dollar Store
  • Cello cover $1
    • Look for these in the gift wrap section at The Dollar Store
    • Great item to buy after Easter and save for Christmas baskets
  • If you have extra room in your bowl and are looking for a "filler" item, consider throwing in some cans or bottles of pop. Rootbeer is often a flavor that both adults and children love.
