Turn off the commericals

I guess this title is a little misleading because how can you just turn off commercials. What I should have said is turn off the TV. I am sure you've already noticed that the network television programming is being filled with advertisements from companies competing for "buy me" time. These television commercials and catalogs you get in the mail have a big influence on most peoples shopping habits. Instead of allowing your family to be influenced by flashy ads, why not make it a priority to reduce their exposure. Not only will this likely reduce your holiday spending, but it will allow you to make a more accurate wish list of what you really want/need.

Here are a few key things you can do:
  • Sort through the mail and toss any catalogs or flyers you receive without opening them
  • Instead of watching network television, put in a movie
  • Turn off the television and spend time as a family enjoying holiday traditions
    • Baking cookies
    • Filling out holiday cards
    • Christmas caroling
    • Making a gingerbread house
