Crayola has this great toy called the Crayon maker, but did you know you could do a version of this at home? First step is to dig out all of those crayon pieces that are too small to color with and remove the paper. Next you cake a muffin tin and put in paper liners. Sort the crayon pieces by color into the liners. Put the pan into a pre-heated 250 degree oven till pieces are melted (~15 minutes). Pull pan out and allow to cool. Once pan is cool you can pull the paper liners off the circles of crayon and the crayons are ready for use. If your crayons are still pliable, put them in the freezer for a few minutes and they will firm right up.
Once you've made your first batch of solid colors, you can experiment with mixing colors. if you end up with enough crayons and need a place to store them, consider using a round drink mix container such as one from Crystal Light.
