Frugal Eats - Apple Crisp

One budget trick that you have heard over and over again from me, is to use fruit that is in season. Well, fall is quickly approaching and so is apple season. With that comes Apple Crisp, a great desert to make for the family. Of course many recipes have nuts in them wich is complicated with so many nut allergies out there...but I saw this one without nuts and thought it was worth re-posting. Best part of this recipe is that it is so cheap to make!

Ingredients:
6 large apples, cored and sliced
1/2 c. orange juice
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. flour
6 T. butter or margarine

Directions:
Stir orange juice over apple slices and coat well. Arrange apples in a greased baking dish.
Combine 1/2 c. of sugar and the cinnamon, sprinkle over the apples.
Then combine remaining sugar with flour and salt, and cut in butter until mixture becomes crumbly.
Spread crumb mixture over apples and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is lightly browned.
Serve warm, ice cream optional.
Thanks Budget Savvy Diva for this great Frugal Eats recipe.
