Wax or Shave, whats more budget friendly?

Summer is here! I was looking at the prices for quality razors and then the prices for waxing, and I thought to myself...which is a better value. Here are the numbers I looked at, feel free to compair for yourself to see.

Razors:
  • Cost $2 each before coupons for quality razors. Average women shave every 2 days for a total useage of 28 razors or $56 every 8 weeks.
  • Time investment of 5 minutes per shave or about 2 1/2 hours every 8 weeks
  • Razor guidelines say you need to replace your razor after every use. This is not related to the sharpness of the blade, but rather the risk of a skin infection due to bacteria growth on a used razor.
Waxing:
  •  Cost is because it is based on the body part you wish to wax. for the basis of this calculation I am using lower legs only. Upper leg hair grows a little slower, so people tend to wax that less often, and many of us also do bikini etc in the summer, but that is a personal choice and has been left out of this calculation.
  • Time investment of 1 hour every ~6 weeks or so. When you start waxing you may need to go more often, and after established less often.
  • Average price in most salons is $30 and needs re-done every ~6 weeks. (Or ~$40 every 8 to compair like time frames)
As you can see, the razors calculate out to more expensive than the waxing when looking strictly at the baseline calculation. Of course this calculation does not take into consideration that "shavers" typically shave other areas that were not included into this total. If you are going to choose waxing for the first time, consider looking for a salon Groupon/Deal Bug/Living Social type deal in your area that includes it in their spa certificates.
