Make compost instead of buying fertalizer
Compost is basically where you take nutrient rich items such as veggie peeling, raked leaves etc and put them in an area so that they can naturally break down into a fertalizer type substance. Getting started can have little expense (of course they have fancy versions too), and there are lots of DIY sites out there (as well as books you can get from the library) to tell you how. If you grow a veggie garden, plant garden, or simply love a plush green lawn, why not make your own compost which is much more budget friendly than buying fertalizer.
