String Eggs

Here is a cheap DIY project that makes a great centerpiece for the Easter season, all you need is embroidery floss, disposable cups, balloons, liquid starch, clothes pins (for drying purposes) and a fine grade rope (for drying purposes). This is a great project to use up leftover embroider floss!
  1. Unwrap packaging from embroidery floss and soak floss (seperate colors into different cups) in liquid starch.
  2. Inflate balloons to desired "egg" sizes. I suggest making them smaller than a baseball, or your gonna need a ton of floss.
  3. Once floss has absorbed starch, wrap it around the balloons until you reach the desired coverage. I suggest you wrap them in a random spider web type pattern for the best effect. Average egg will take 2-4 skeins of floss.
  4. Using the balloon tail, clothes pin the egg to the rope and allow to dry overnight.
  5. Pop the balloon and remove from egg. Put eggs into a cute basket or bowl on your table.
