Kool-Ade dyed eggs

Did you know that you could dye your eggs with unsweetened powderd drink mix? I sure didn't, but think its a great idea for those who simply forgot to pick up the dye packets on closeout last year. Best part about this dye method is that Kool-Ade (or its knock off) can be found 5/$1 all over, making this a budget friendly project the whole family can do. I've put a condensed version below, or you can click here to go to see the full set of instructiosn from Hey Jen Rennee.
  1. Hard boil your eggs and allow to cool.
  2. Cover counter/table with cloth to avoid dye stains. Gather glass/ceramic cup large enough to hold eggs (plastic will get color stains, but will work).
  3. Mix one packet of dry drink mix (no sugar/sweetener added) in 2/3 cup water and stir to disolve. Each glass/cup should contain a different color. Pastel colors will not dye as well as bright ones, so add a tad of their brighter version in the water to "boost" the color (orange will boost yellow and red will boost pink etc).
  4. Proceed to put eggs into cup and soak until desired color appears.
Eggs will initially have the dye smell, but this will soon disappear and should NOT affect the egg flavor inside the shell.
