Buying frozen items in bulk

If you shop at a wholesale club and buy items in bulk, consider taking the time to re-package items into smaller serving sizes. When you leave your frozen items in the one large bag, you risk freezer burn for two reasons. Firstly when you open the large pack the seal never seems to re-seal tight enough to keep the air away from the food. Secondly, you tend to grab whatever is "convient" causing your large package to get pushed to the back/bottom of the freezer which can cause you to not use it before freezer burn sets in. Instead, open a box of ziploc bags and bag your frozen goods into smaller sizes. What size will depend on how big your family is, and how much you cook at a time. Be sure to label and date the bags, then arrange them in a freezer basket so that they stay easy to get to. When you use these bags, often they can be washed and reused, which will save you the cost of replacing bags each time.
