DIY pumpkin seeds

As we get ready to carve pumpkins, I thought it would be a good time to remind you that you need to save the seeds and make them into some cheap treats for the family. Of course de-sliming them is the tough part, but if you have kids to carve, you have kids to de-slime (aka child labor).

First you need to separate the pumpkin seeds from the slime (aka fibers). Wash, drain, and dry the seeds on paper towels. Then coat 11/2 cups seeds with ~1 tsp vegetable oil and toss with seasonings of choice. Most people prefer plain salt but you can mix it up based on your taste. Then spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Place in a pre-heated 250 degree oven and bake 12-15 minutes or until brown. Stir occasionally.

Here are some spices you might consider trying
  • chili powder
  • garlic powder
  • itialian seasoning
