Travel tip #6 - drink water

Travel tip #6 - Drink water

This tip is two fold.
  1. First if you are flying you will be thirsty and those dog-gone regulations won't let you bring a drink past the gates. The trick to not buying those overpriced machine drinks is bringing and empty water bottle. Try to find one that is easy to see through (like Lexan or Nalgene) and simply fill it up AFTER you are through the security gates. If you end up having to go through security on one of your transfers (which does happen on occasion), you can simply dump out your bottle and refill it again.
  2. Anytime you can drink water instead of pop/coffee/etc it will save you money. You need to drink in order to avoid all those dehydration problems (dizziness, urinary tract infections and so on..), but it doesn't have to be expensive. Take your refillable water bottle with you when you are on your day trips. That way you can get a free refill anytime you see a drinking fountain.
  3. You can typically pick up these sorts of bottles at any local discount or camping store. Try to get one that will allow you to put a clip on it for easy transport. If it does not come with a clip, check in the sporting goods and/or automotive department for a carabiner clip that will fit. Keep your eyes out at promo type booths, it is not uncommon to find them being given away for FREE with a company logo on it.
  4. Wash your bottle each night and store with lid OFF. This will reduce your chances of bacertia growing in your bottle.
    • If you have a hard time with this step, consider bringing a cheap water bottle instead and buying a case of water when you get to your destination. You can simply buy a modified carabiner made to fit the neck of a store purchase water bottle instead.
