As we get ready to embark on summer vacations, for us, the worst part is getting there. This month I will be posting several different travel tips to help make you travels easier. Look for another one tomorrow...
Here is travel tip #1 - create a scavenger hunt sheet for the kids
This sheet can be custom made for each trip using a basic word processing program. I simply think of things for them to find during the trip (mostly along the road) and add them to the list. Keep the list basic such as fire truck, state flag, cow, favorite restaurants etc. Because I have a child who does not read well yet, I try to include a picture to help her out. I use cheap toys from the dollar store (that they can play with in the car) to give them as a reward upon completion of the hunt.
If you are feeling overly creative, why not make the scavenger hunt in a bingo format. Of course you will need to make each card a little different, so this can become very time consuming.
If you are not that creative, you can find some basic ones already created online simply by using your search engine. The problem with the pre-created ones is that it is always the same things to find. By doing your own, you can include items that are trip specific, and special to your children.
