As the summer approachs, many people are looking to have their family portraits taken, while others want a great kids pic to put in Grandpa's frame for Father's day. No matter the reason, you need to check out Picture People.

Short on cash? Register for the picture people mailing list and get coupons for FREE portraits. The promotional email typically includes a FREE 8X10 or 10X13 sheet with no sitting fee, and no further obligation to buy. You can sometimes find Picture People coupons in parenting magazines or on their website as well. Of course if you want to buy, they are more than happy to accommodate you and have very competitive pricing. You can take the portraits home the same day as the sitting, so plan to be there for at least an hour to allow for waiting time, shooting time, viewing time and photo processing time.

I have two children, so we have a portrait taken of each child on their birthday plus we do a group sitting for the holidays. If you take photos 3 times a year, you need to consider joining their portrait club. It does cost to join the club, but you will more than get your money back in savings. By using the club and the coupons, I am able to get 3 sheets of photos for ~$10 per sitting (1 free w/coupon, 1 free w/club, $10 off a sheet w/club). We have found the Independence Center location to be GREAT with kids, if you go there let them know I referred you.

For the best photographer shots, go during the day Mon-Fri avoiding dates between Thanksgiving and Christmas if possible (peak season with seasonal help = less time for each shoot & less experienced photographers). They have both solid and pattern back drops so dressing in solid colors gives your more options for back drops. Dress clothes not in the budget either, why not go for a simple white or black T and jeans for everyone - trust me when I say they can come out pretty cool. If you are planning on children being in the shoot, plan around nap and eating schedules to ensure you have "happy campers".
