Travel tip #19 - KISS

This tip is for those parents out there who are trying to entertain kids on vacation. Keep in mind that kids tend to be happy doing almost anything...anything they don't do at home that is. Do some research online before you go as to what types of things might be available before you leave home. Don't be afraid to keep it simple.

For example, we are planning a trip to Charleston this summer. I already know that they have a very established park system with lots of public activities year round. I will need to wait until closer to our departure to know what sort of programs (besides the water activities) will be there during our stay, but none the less, I know they will be affordable if we choose to do it. I also know that the Ocean is FREE and swimmable. I simply needed to do a little research as to which beaches were child friendly (low under-tow, bathrooms available etc) and had parking available. Odds are fairly good that their favorite memories won't be from the hotel or a fancy meal, but from the time they spend swimming in the ocean.

While you are doing your research, keep an eye out for links on each site that may take you to another kid related attraction. Sometimes these links come with dicount codes and coupons. You might also find that they have FREE printable activity books and coloring sheets. These make a great item to add into your kids "keep busy bag" for the way there.

Here is an example of one free printable put out by the Charleston aquarium - http://scaquarium.org/Kids/activities/loggerheadActivityBook.pdf
